"All The Small Things" was the second single off Blink-182's third album
Enema Of The State
in 1999. Guitarist Tom DeLonge wrote it for his girlfriend because she complained about him writing songs about other girls. He wrote this one and told her it was terrible to keep her expectations low. It ended up being a hit and she loved it.
It hit #29 on the Adult Top 40, #8 on Mainstream Top 40, #6 on the Hot 100, and #1 on the Modern Rock Tracks charts.
The lyric about leaving roses by the stairs is true. DeLonge's girlfriend really did leave roses by the stairs after a long night in the studio.
The music video was a favorite on MTV's Total Request Live. It featured parodies of some of the hottest pop stars and boy bands at the time.
