90s at 9 Sammy Hagar Likes People Who Are Like Poundcake

How the Van Halen power drill came to be.

"Poundcake" was the first song to be released as a single from Van Halen's For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge in 1991.

So in the song Eddie Van Halen uses a power drill in the introduction and during the guitar solo. It came about because a guitar technician was operating a drill while he was playing and Eddie Van Halen said that the sound captured was akin to "kick starting your engine." So he painted a drill with the Frakenstrat stripes to use during concerts.

Sammy Hagar said the lyrical influence for the song was that he liked people who were like poundcake, what you see is what you get.
