Some people, including the band themselves, believe this to be the Avenged Sevenfold's song that put them on the map! Bat Country, and its respected music video is heavily inspired by Hunter S. Thompson's book "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", which was adapted into a film by Terry Gilliam in 1998. The title of the song is from a line in the book where the main character, an antihero named Raoul Duke, is hallucinating flying bats and manta-rays overhead on his convertible trip to Las Vegas. When his travel partner and attorney, Dr. Gonzo stops the car to pick up a hitch-hiker, Raoul urges him to travel on because "We can't stop here! This is Bat Country!"
