ABBOTSFORD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) -- Voters in Abbotsford will be heading back to the polls on Tuesday for a special mayoral election.

A mayoral recall is happening today in Abbotsford from 7 AM to 8 PM at Abbotsford City Hall. The recall was petitioned by City Council President Brent Faber who disagreed with the financial direction the city was going in. Faber announced his candidacy for mayor after filing his petition on August 1st to run against current mayor Lori Voss.

The two ran against one another in 2017 as well for the initial race. Voss told WAOW-TV that the city was a mess when she began as mayor as the books hadn't been reconciled in 18 years. She also said that if she hadn't brought the issues of the city's financial status to light that the recall may not have happened.

Faber had to collect so many signatures on his petition to force the recall a year after the election. He collected 146 signatures on October 19th, when the petition was submitted and certified. Both candidates are concerned about low voter turnout and that it could be the deciding factor.

Polls are open today from 7 am to 8 pm at Abbotsford City Hall.
