MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) -- A proposed master plan for improvements to Marshfield's popular Braem Park was unveiled, and discussed, at a special open house Thursday night.

Former Marshfield mayor Chris Meyer now serves on the city's 'Park and Rec. Committee' and says city officials heard a lot of great suggestions.  "We're looking for that feedback tonight, and we'll incorporate that feedback into any final designs that we bring forward for final approval.  So tonight is not an unveiling of a completed plan, but rather a plan that could now incorporate some of the suggestions we're hearing tonight."

Meyer says the plan seems to be a hit.  "Overall the comments have been very positive.  A lot of questions about why 'this is being moved' or why 'this isn't there any more' or why 'this was added.'  But overall, very positive comments.'

"And one of the things that I think is an important take-away is that this is a 'master plan,'" Meyer explained.  "That means that it's not a single project, this is a plan for how we're going to improve this space over a number of years."

That plan was prepared by consulting firm 'cbs2,' and includes updates to Braem Park's tennis courts, parking lot, shelter house, and softball field.  Also in the plan are the addition of more walking trails, and the proper management of endangered ash trees and two small creeks on the park property.
