MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) -- It was record attendance and record donations at Marshfield's Rotary Winter Wonderland last weekend, and event co-chair Scott Larson says Friday, Saturday and Sunday were their best days ever in the entire 13-year history of the event.

According to Larson, "All totaled we had over 12,000 food items and almost $15,000 worth of cash donations for those three days."

It started with a 30% increase in cash donations on Friday, and then Saturday was their single best day ever.  "Saturday, over 6800 food items were collected and over $7500 in cash donations were made.  Both of those numbers were single day records for the event," Larson said.

And why the big numbers?  With the unusually warm weather, a lot of visitors decided to actually "walk through a Winter Wonderland."  Larson explained that, "There were a lot of people walking in with the weather conditions which were quite ideal last weekend, and it benefited us with an outstanding turnout for the event."

Organizers say those cash and food donations will go to supply more than 30 food pantries all across central Wisconsin.

There's still time to see the dazzling display which features more than 1.5-million LED lights; and you can see it free of charge in Marshfield's Wildwood Park, every night between 5 and 9 p.m., now through New Year's Eve.
